Design Details

The THOMSON PAPER wall clock is created by combining the natural textures of wood and paper. The dial is made from a special paper known as “Mermaid,” featuring a gentle wave-like texture referred to as “Mermaid Ripple,” inspired by the calm surface of the sea.

This textured paper contrasts with the plywood frame and the ash wood hands, creating a balanced and natural visual composition. The dial is produced using a specialized Thomson die-cutting process, a technique commonly used in manufacturing puzzle boards.

This process uses a custom die made from thin steel blades bent into shape and fixed onto a wooden base. It allows paper and wood materials to be cut into complex forms with precision. Due to the pressure applied during cutting, the edges of the numerals become slightly rounded, creating soft shadows within the dial.

By utilizing the natural textures of the materials, the clock achieves a subtle three-dimensional effect, enhancing both its visual appeal and its function as a timekeeping device.
