In Moominpappa at Sea, the Moomin family experiences a major life change and moves to a small island with a lighthouse. The following story, Moominvalley in November, is unique because the Moomin family does not appear in the story, as they have already moved away. Instead, it tells the story of several characters who gather in Moominvalley, waiting for the family to return and forming an unusual shared life together.

During the time these works were created, Tove Jansson experienced the loss of her mother, Signe, who had deeply influenced her life and artistic work. The illustrations and words from these stories carry a sense of quiet sadness, longing, and reflection. The delicate line drawings of the sea, wind, light, and shadow convey strong emotions and depth.
