MoMA One on One Series Frank Lloyd Wright Broadacre City Softcover
Product Description
This MoMA One on One Series book explores Frank Lloyd Wright’s visionary project Broadacre City, a radical proposal for reimagining American community life during the Great Depression.
As the United States faced widespread poverty, hunger, and unemployment, Wright developed a forward-thinking urban plan centered on individual independence, respect for nature, and fair distribution of resources. His concept included providing each family with a generous plot of land, challenging traditional urban density.
Although his career slowed in the early 1930s, Wright dedicated himself to refining this ambitious vision until his death in 1959. The large-scale relief model of Broadacre City, created between 1934 and 1935 with his apprentices, remains a highlight of the collection at Museum of Modern Art (MoMA).
Written by design historian Juliet Kinchin, this volume examines both the ideals and contradictions of one of the 20th century’s most influential yet unrealized architectural projects.
